Founded in 1998 by Tim & Jon Adkins, The Huntington Hounds focus is to provide area youth the opportunity to develop their competitive skills and to promote amateur baseball in the Tri-State Area. The Huntington Hounds is sponsored by Tri-State Baseball Association, Inc.,(TSBA). TSBA is a corporation exclusively for charitable purposes as defined by Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. TSBA was organized in 1998 by Tim and Jon Adkins. Tim was a ninth round draft selection of the Toronto Blue Jays in the 1992 draft. Jon attended Oklahoma State University and was drafted by the Oakland A’s in the ninth round in the 1998 draft. TSBA’s vision for the future includes placing more players into college, establishing our own scholarship program for the athletes, and the continued promotion of our local youth. In 1999, our first full season, our eighteen-year-old team placed second in the Mountain State Classic held in Beckley. Our sixteen year old team placed fifth in the regionals; AABC WV State Championships; tied for first place in JB Yeager tournament in Cincinnati; second place in Hound Dog Classic. During the 2000 season our eighteen-year-old won their regional championship in Altoona, Pennsylvania and finished fourth in their World Series held in Wilmington, Delaware. Grant Harper received a $750.00 NABF scholarship award to use for his education at Marshall University. The seventeen-year-old team qualified for World Series competition. The sixteen-year-old team was AABC State Championship and placed second in regional competition held in Tennessee. The thirteen-year-old team won their Hound Dog Classic and a Cincinnati Triple Crown Classic Tournament. They also finished third out of a field of twenty-five in a NABF National Classic tournament in Mississippi. Another highlight of the 2000 season saw the merger of the Huntington Patriots and the Huntington Hounds. From 1991 to 1999, Dick Brammer served as the General Manager and Head Coach of the Huntington Patriots. Mr. Brammer brings added experience in scouting, recruiting, and coaching to the TSBA staff. Although the 2001 season didn’t bring any World Series titles home our organization was to qualify for the CABA World Series in 14/under bracket and our 16/under program was beat in the regional championship. The organization posted a 93-50 record and the 18/under program placed eight players into college. 2002 brought the Hounds back to the World Series. The 18/under and 17 year old team both won berths to their respective divisions. The 16/under program was eliminated in the regional championship. The biggest highlight of the season was our 18/under program placing 11 players into college baseball. During the 2003 season, we sponsored two teams 16/under and 18/under with the emphasis of providing local athletes a platform to display their abilities. Our 16/U won the regional championship and came within one game from winning the World Series in Northville, Michigan. We placed 6 players on the all-tournament team. The 18/U did not make it out of the regionals, but we were able to make our best showing at the Perfect Game Wooden Bat Tournament held in Atlanta, Georgia. They also won the Hound Dog Classic and we were able to place six out of eight of our seniors into college programs. In 2004, forty-two (42) kids participated in our summer program. Eight (8) players received scholarships. (55 total scholarship 2001-2004)
The 2005 season brought the Hounds back to the World Series. The 16/U team won the regional in Youngstown, OH while the 18/U lost in the regional championship. Both teams excelled by going a combined 74-26 for the summer. The 14/U team was used as a development team for the future. All in all it was a great year as both the 16/U and 18/U in tournament play throughout the Southeastern United States and we saw 12 more seniors placed into college. ![]() | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
